Grass to Sanitary Pads
Transforming natural waste into sustainable, accessible menstrual solutions.

The Problem
In Kenya, approximately 3 million girls miss school every year due to a lack of access to sanitary products. Many are forced to use unsafe alternatives, putting their health and well-being at risk.
At the same time, plastic-based sanitary pads are widely used but take hundreds of years to break down, contributing to growing environmental concerns.
Our Innovation
We are developing an innovative, eco-friendly sanitary pad made from grass fibers. This natural, biodegradable material serves as an absorbent core, providing a sustainable, safe alternative to conventional pads. The pads are designed to offer both affordability and environmental sustainability, addressing the hygiene crisis while helping reduce waste.
Why It Matters
1. Accessible and affordable for girls and women in Kenya and beyond
2. Compostable and plastic-free, offering a sustainable solution
3.Supports school attendance and overall health for girls
4.Reduces environmental impact by using grass — an abundant, renewable resource
What’s Next
We are preparing for the official product launch in September 2025, with the first prototypes undergoing rigorous testing and refinement. Our goal is to reach schools and communities in Kenya to provide safe, eco-friendly menstrual products to those who need them most.
